In-folio, [17 (of 18)] f., 780 p., [17] f., figs, antique vellum, 5-ribbed spine, title in ink (snagging at head-cap, worm spots on spine and very first few ff., foxing, faint wetness in margins; lacking title page). Devotional work composed by St. Peter Canisius, author of the first catechism published by the Jesuits. The edition is illustrated with 12 full-page woodcuts, unsigned, some repeated. Provenance: "Petri Mengoly, rectoris": possibly Pietro Mengoli, a mathematician who was rector of the parish of St. Mary Magdalene in Bologna in the 17th c.
