In-4, [8] f., 500 p., [44] f., 17th c. tan basane, spine with 5 nerves, gilt title, caissons decorated with a gilt fleur-de-lys pattern, double gilt fillet bordering the boards, gilt medallion with 3 fleur-de-lys in the center, edges speckled (defects including partial splits of the jaws, rubbing, epidermis; a few rare rings in the margins, worms' work in the margin of the index, not serious; old annotations covering the endpapers). First edition of this history of the origins of the kingdoms of the Near and Middle East (Assyrian, Chaldean, Hebrew), but also of Greece, Italy, Spain, Gaul and France, written by C. de Roffignac (1512-1575), president à mortier at the Parliament of Bordeaux, published by Jean d'Alesme, adviser to the same parliament. Provenance: book offered as a prize from the College of Chartres to the student Jean Proust in 1663 (ms. mention on a guard). (USTC 170038).
