[Chronicles]. VICTOR OF TUNNUNUM; JEAN OF... - Lot 21 - Kâ-Mondo
[Chronicles]. VICTOR OF TUNNUNUM; JEAN OF BICLAR. LIUTPRAND OF CREMONA. Chronicon Victoris, episcopi Tunnunensis. Chronicon Joannis Biclarensis,... Legatio Luitprandi,... ad Nicephorum Phocam,... nomine Othonis Magni,... Synodus Bavarica... Omnia nunc primum in lucem edita studio et opera Henrici Canisii Ingolstadii, ex off. typogr. Ederiana, apud A. Angermarium, 1600. In-4, 148 p., [1] blank f., contemporary ivory vellum, smooth spine, title in ink (small stains without gravity on the boards and spine; small worm work affecting a few letters of the last text without disturbing the reading, very pale halo at the head of the volume). Uncommon collection of editions of four important texts for ancient history: The Chronicle of Victor, African bishop of the sixth century; that of John of Santarem, abbot of Biclar, bishop of Girona, who died in 621; the report of the historian Liutprand, diplomatic emissary to Constantinople in 949; the synod held in Bavaria in the eighth century under Tassilon II. Edition prepared by H. Canisius, a discreet and painstaking church historian, and nephew of Blessed Peter Canisius. Provenance: Jesuit college of Paris (old handwritten mention on the title).
