New edition, the last and most complete, of these two works. In the "Pinax", Gaspard Bauhin (1560-1624) establishes the identity of plants and determines their species by a name or a very short sentence. He was the first to present a complete and methodical concordance of the names given to plants, and his work was an authority until Linnaeus. The "Prodromus" contains the description of about 600 plants; it is illustrated with 141 woodcut figures. Copy enriched with 4 old handwritten leaves at the beginning (General table of the Pinax), and 2 handwritten leaves at the end (Table of concordance of Bauhin with Linné for the Prodomus). (Pritzel, 507-509; Nissen, BBI, 104).
