Small oblong in-4 (127 x 193 mm.), [4] f., 315-[1] p. (with errors: ch. from 1 to 123, the verso of 123 is bl., 123 to 256, then 253 to 315, the verso n. ch. for the register), nineteenth-century vellum, gilt framed roulette on the boards, red and black title-pieces, speckled edges. Italian binding of the 19th century. (Some soiling and small lacks to the binding, small hole in the margin of one leaf, some rust stains on 2 leaves). Unique edition of this treatise containing the rules for handling the pike, halberd and musket. It is decorated with an engraved title in a beautiful frame, portraits of Kenelm George Digby, to whom the book is dedicated, and of the author, and 54 finely engraved plates illustrating combat techniques, bearing 125 figures whose numbers refer to the corresponding paragraph giving the explanation. There is 1 plate (Misure pedali); 34 plates for the Pique (fig. 1 to 89); 4 plates for the halberd (Ordine de' tagli and 3 plates bearing fig. 90 to 95) and 15 plates for the musket (30 fig.). The engravings are attributed to Francesco Bertelli of Padua. The. f. 110 presents a printed cardboard reported on the faulty text. (Brunet, Suppl, II, p. 244; Gelli, 277 "Beautiful, very rare and sought-after volume": Garcia Donnell Collection, 692; Cockle 742).
