In-12, contemporary marbled fawn calf, spine with 5 nerves, garnet morocco title-piece, ornate caissons, marbled edges (one corner rubbed, small crack at the head of the lower jaw). 1. Letter to the R. P. L. P. D. on the violent help. S.l., s.n., 1784. XII-70 p. - 2. second letter to the rescuers S.l., s.n., 1785. 46 p. - 4. third letter to the helpers, mainly to their leader the R. P. L. P. D., in answer S.l., s.n., 1785. 111p. - 4. fourth letter to the helpers, in which they refute S.l., s.n., 1785. 260 p., [2] f. (errata, table). - 5. Lettre aux cordicoles, sur l'origine et les inconvéniens de la fête du Sacré Coeur de Jésus et de Marie. In Avignon, s.n., 1781. 42 p. A rare and interesting collection of controversial pieces relating to the excesses of members of the convulsionary movement, which was established following supposed miracles at the tomb of the deacon Pâris in the Parisian cemetery of Saint-Médard in the early 1730's. The movement took a sectarian turn during the 18th century, and the "helps" discussed here are similar to acts of torture performed on convulsionaries by their assistants, even going as far as crucifixion. These pieces do not appear in the BnF catalog.
