In-8, [1] f., 137 p., rooted Havana calf, smooth spine, red morocco title coin, spine decorated with gold fleurons, gold fillet on cuts, marbled edges (headdress torn off, inf. bit split in tail, one blunt corner, browning). First edition. J. B. Gibert (1711-1771), member of the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres, secretary and keeper of the archives of the peerage from 1766 to 1772, wrote this work to combat the pretensions of the House of Rohan to a higher rank than other peers in France. Provenance: back to the weapon parts of the Rohan (macles), alternating with crowned Lorraine crosses.
