[16th century book]. FROISSART (Jean). The second volume of Froissart des Croniques de France d'Angleterre, d'Escoce, d'Espaigne, de Bretaigne, de Gascongne, de Flandres et lieux circonvoisins. Paris], Guillaume Eustace, [1513 or 1514]. In-folio, [6]-CCLXXIX f., woodcut bookseller's mark with title, soft parchment of the 17th c., smooth spine, title in ink (stains, missing laces, small worm work on the back covers, title partly doubled and with parts replaced, sustained wetness at the beginning and end of the vol., then lighter, paper weakened at the very last leaves, margins replaced at the beginning and end of the vol. ; one corner mq. in margin f. M3, accident involving s. letters f. O1, the last sheet is missing). Second volume alone of this important gothic edition, which is to consist of four parts. Text on 2 columns, woodcut initials, woodcut mark of Guillaume Eustace on the title. Signatures: AA 6, B-E 8, F 10, G 6, H-X 8, AA-OO 8, PP 7 (on 8, mq. the last f. with the mark engraved on wood, attached in reduced reproduction). These signatures correspond to the edition dated 1503 [mistakenly for 1513 ?] by the USTC, no. 65045, which also indicates a collation conforming to our copy (with the last f. in addition). Qq. old notes in the margin. Old signature "Jehan Courtin" on f. XXX r°, which could designate Sieur de Rozay, adviser to the Parliament on November 28, 1567, who died dean of the Parliament in 1584. Annotation in ink and modern ex-libris stamp on the upper guard. (BP16, 103485; Brunet II, 1405).
