[16th century book]. [JEROMA (Saint)]. Vita... - Lot 175 - Kâ-Mondo
[16th century book]. [JEROMA (Saint)]. Vita de sancti padri vulgare hystoriata. Venice], [Bartolomeo Zani], [1509 or 1512]. In-folio, n.p., 18th c. ivory vellum, smooth spine, gilt title, red speckled edges (filled cut in the margin of the title, some browned ff., clear wet angul. at the very end of the vol., small worm work in the margin; 4 introductory f. and 48 f. missing at the end). Edition supposedly based on the woodcut publisher's mark with the title: Saint Bartholomew standing with a knife in his hand, against a background of a landscape showing a town and a tree. Text on 2 columns, illustrated with many small woodcuts. The book is composed of 6 books, of which only the first 5 are shown here; the first page of each book is decorated with a figure and a frame made of several woods. These illustrations were designed for the first incunabulum editions and were then passed from hand to hand and re-used by the successive publishers of this book. Signatures: a4 [of 8], b-g8, h10, i-m8, n10, o-p8, q-r6, s8, t-v10. See: ICCU/SBN, LIAE 5016 (ed. 1509) and CERE 19720 (ed. 1512).
