Antonio Davila Born in Spain, Davila was noticed very early on for his qualities as a sculptor. After being distinguished in Madrid at the age of 17 on the occasion of an international exhibition, he continued his apprenticeship in Italy, notably with Marino Marini, whose pupil he was. Before returning to Mexico for nearly ten years, between 1960 and 1968, he obtained a certificate of navigation in the merchant navy that would allow him to sail the seas throughout his life. At the University of Mexico City, then in Merida, Yucatan, he taught direct carving and exhibited at the International Biennial of Sculpture in Mexico City (1963) and Buenos Aires in 1964. During each of his trips to Sweden, from Newfoundland to Mauritius via Madagascar, Davila created numerous sculptures, carving marble, granite and local stones and participated in sculpture exhibitions. On the Costa Brava, before returning to the sea in 1975, he created six monumental sculptures for the castle of Pubol, owned by Dali. France became his home port in the 1980s, staying regularly on the Brittany coast. He regularly exhibits at the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles, the Salon de Mai and the Salon de La Jeune Sculpture.
