BÉZOAR - Lot 170
BÉZOAR Late 18th century - early 19th century, bronze and animal material. The bezoar was once considered a precious antidote, its name comes from the Persian pdzahr: "which preserves from poison", it is also called "Stomach pearl". The sphere of the bezoar is set in a bronze case encircled by rings with studded geometric decoration, offering a set of golden and brown checkerboard. The piece does not have a suspension attachment and was certainly originally intended to be supported by a base. Collector's item, rare.
