PAIRE DE BOUGEOIRS - Epoque XIXe siècle. - Lot 216
PAIRE DE BOUGEOIRS - Epoque XIXe siècle. PAIR OF CANDLES in bronze with a natural patina representing "Night Hunters", represented standing on an oval terrace. 19th century. H.: 30 cm. The subject of these statuettes is inspired by Antonio Tempesta's drawings and his collection entitled "Different ways of catching and raising birds when hunting". These hunting scenes were also engraved by Francis Barlow. The title of the engraving is "Birds Caught in Nets and Birds Down". The inventories of Zeh and Baldinucci carried out in the 17th century mention a melted birder by John of Bologna (preserved in the Historical Museum of Vienna). Another model made by Susini is also known (Louvre Museum, Crown Collection, No. 78). This subject, widespread in Tuscany, was also made in Germany at the beginning of the 17th century. A copy of this model is preserved in the Museum of Copenhagen (Inv. 843).
