François de TROY (1645-1730) Portrait of Henri-Jacques Nompar de Caumont, Duke of La Force in armour (1675-1726). Oval canvas set in a rectangle. 80 × 64 cm. (Restorations). A study of the armor, formerly attributed to Hyacinthe Rigaud, is kept in the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Rouen. We We thank Mr. Dominique Brême who confirmed the attribution. Fourth child born on March 5th 1675 to Jacques II Nompar de Caumont and Suzanne de Beringhen. First duke of Caumont, he took the title of fifth duke of La Force at his father's death in 1699. Colonel of the Beauce regiment, he served in Picardy; during the War of the Spanish Succession, he was colonel of the Caumont La Force infantry regiment. President of the Finance Council in 1716, he joined the Regency Council during the minority of the young Louis XV in 1718. He died in Paris in his hotel in the rue Taranne on 20 July 1726. In 1703, the Caractères de la famille royale, des ministres d'État et des principales personnes de la cour de France described him as follows: "Is not badly taken in his size which is small and fine.
