LOTI (Pierre). A collection of four works in first editions: 1. The novel of a spahi. Paris, Calmann Lévy, 1881. In-18, [2] f., 380 p., half plum morocco, spine with 5 nerves decorated with a gilt stipple, author, title and date gilt, boxes decorated with small irons with mosaic medallion, gilt fillet on the covers, gilt head, covers preserved [Thierry, successor of Petit-Simier] (spine faded, negligible rubbing at the corners and edges of the covers). First edition (no large papers were printed). Provenance: Eugène Lazare Richtenberger (1856-1920), art critic (sale 1921, n°363; engraved bookplate). (Talvart & Place XII, 257-258). The next three books are identically bound: half havana morocco with corners, spine with five raised bands, author, title and date gilt, caissons bordered by a double gilt fillet, head gilt, cover and spine preserved, witnesses preserved [Petitot]. 2. Japoneries d'automne. Paris, Calmann Lévy, 1889. In-18, [2] f., 356 p., [2] f. (table and a blank). (negligible rubbing). First edition: one of 50 copies on Hollande (n°4, the only large paper after 25 japon). (Talvart and Place XII, 262). 3. The novel of a child. Paris, Calmann Lévy, 1890. In-18, [3] f., 314 p., [1] blank f. (very light rubbing to corners and nerves). First edition: one of 75 copies on Hollande (n°25, the only large paper after 25 japon). (Talvart & Place XII, 263). 4. Le livre de la pitié et de la mort. Paris, Calmann-Lévy, 1891. In-18, [4] f. (the 1st blank), III-320 p., [2] f. (table and a blank) (snags on a nerve and the tail cap). First edition: one of 75 copies on Hollande (n°36, the only large paper after 25 japon). (Talvart & Place XII, 264). That is 4 volumes.
