ANSALDI (Casto Innocente). De Romana tutelarium deorum in oppugnationibus urbium evocatione, liber singularis. Editio quarta. Oxonii, e typographo Clarendoniano, 1765. In-8, [4] f., 164 p., contemporary red morocco, smooth and ornate spine, tan basane title-piece, triple gilt fillet bordering the boards, gilt roulette at the edges, gilt edges (snagged tail-cap, spine faded, corners rubbed, stains on the boards; brownings). New edition of this work by the Italian Dominican Casto I. Ansaldi (1710-1780). In conflict with his order, he led an erratic life throughout Italy, from convent to convent; he taught theology in Naples, Brescia, Ferrara. Originally published in Brescia in 1743 under the title De diis multarum gentium Romam evocatis, the work is devoted to the study of ancient religions and the mysteries of paganism. Provenance: Dominicans of Poitiers (stamped on the title).
