Where the greatness & the incomparable power of the Romans is seen; together with the clarification of the itinerary of Antonin & of the Peutinger map. A Bruxelles, chez Jean Léonard, 1728. Two vol. in-4, contemporary glazed havana calf, spine with 5 nerves, garnet coloured title and greef (possibly renewed), decorated boards, triple cold fillet on the boards, decorated edges, red edges (snags on the edge of 2 boards, one headpiece cracked, one upper bit split along 2 boards, negligible wormholes on one bit, inside browned). First and most highly regarded illustrated edition of this important study; it contains in particular a good engraved reproduction of the famous Peutinger Table. The illustration consists of a frontispiece by B. Picart; 2 portraits representing the dedicatee, Philippe François Prince de Rubempré, by G. Cortens engraved by Bertheram of Brussels, and the author (folding portrait) by J.V. Vianen; 4 plates, 3 of which are folding; itinerary-map of Peutinger, made up of 8 folding plates; numerous lettering and cul-de-lampe. Provenance: C.-A.-E.
