DES RUES (François). Description contenant... - Lot 48 - Kâ-Mondo
DES RUES (François). Description contenant toutes les singularitez de plus célèbres villes et places remarquables du Royaume de France A Rouen, chez David Geuffroy, [peu après 1611]. Small in-8, [4 (of 5 ?)] f. (of which the frontispiece), 352p. in contemporary ivory velin (small tears and stains on the lower cover, frontispiece without margins rebacked, stamp scratched on f.2, rare light spotting, hole touching 2 letters on p.333, short margins, title sometimes trimmed as well as the frame of 2 maps, one limin. f. may be missing). New revised and enlarged edition of this description of France which originally appeared in 1608. It is preceded by a copper-engraved title showing Louis XIII accompanied by the twelve peers of France, as well as the coats of arms of the provinces; the illustration entirely woodcut in the text consists of the portrait of Louis XIII, 6 full-page maps, and vignettes supposed to represent cities in plan or perspective. It is amusing to note that some of them have been used several times, for example the views of Paris (p.31) and of Toulouse (p.324) are identical Provenance: Louis-Joseph Fillon (1877-1943), archbishop of Bourges (armorial bookplate); modern handwritten bookplate Jacques Robiquet (handwritten bookplate 1946); old handwritten bookplate
