GUITRY (Sacha). Frans Hals or admiration.... - Lot 483 - Kâ-Mondo
GUITRY (Sacha). Frans Hals or admiration. A play in three acts and free verse. Paris: Petite Illustration, 1931. In-4, 51 leaves, printed cover. Bradel red half-chagrin with corners, smooth spine, gilt head, untrimmed, cover preserved [At. Boichot]. Precious copy of corrected proofs from the pre-original edition of this three-act play, first performed on March 28, 1931 at the Théâtre de la Madeleine. These proofs include numerous corrections, as well as several additions of text and didascalia by the author. At the head of Act 2 is a small typed sheet giving stage directions. A copy of the edition of the play, one of 12 printed on Japon paper (no. 3), has been bound in, enriched with 2 very fine original photographs of two scenes from the play by the Waléry studio, the first of which has been reproduced on the back cover of the edition. Also included are the original program for the play at the Théâtre de la Madeleine, a color photocopy of the painting depicting Sacha Guitry as Frans Hall and a reproduction of a photograph of Yvonne Printemps as Annette. Beautiful and unique set, well bound. Provenance: Jacques Crépineau (1932-2017), director of Parisian theaters, who had this copy established (etiq. bookplate).
