In-12, [7] f., 153 p., [6] f., cherry half-maroquin with corners, four-ribbed spine, gilt title, author and date, gilt head, cover and spine preserved [R. Aussourd] (transfer of front. on title). First edition of the author's first novel, illustrated with a heliogravure after Gustave Moreau. - Contes pour lire à la chandelle. Paris, Mercure de France, 1897. In-18, 175 p., [2] f., recent marbled cardboard, smooth spine, red title page, cover and spine preserved (some minor foxing). First edition. Autograph signed letter from the author "À Vincent Lorant / pour lui faire / rever les bijoux qu'il rêve / ton ami / Jean Lorrain". Vincent Lorant-Heilbronn was an Art Nouveau poster artist and illustrator who was a friend of Lorrain's, and illustrated "Le Vice errant" for him, published by Ollendorf in 1902.
