Paris, L. de Potter, 1844. 5 vol. in-8, contemporary havane half calf, smooth spine, author, title, tomaison, gilt fillet and frieze (spines faded and rubbed, 2 upper and 1 lower jaws weak, caps of vol.1 torn off; light russets). First edition. Accompanied by a signed autograph letter from George Sand to "Madame Josse" in blue ink, ¾ p. in-8° on 1 f. in-4 folded. This is Ursule Josse, niece of a chambermaid in Nohant who shared Georges Sand's games as a child, and with whom she retained friendly ties. The novelist invites her to a performance, apologizes for not being able to send for her and adds "don't bring me other people and don't talk about comedy [...]".
