In-4, violet morocco, spine with 4 raised bands, gilt authors, title and date, central mosaic fleuron decorated with crescent moons, the boards each mosaiced with a view in a round medallion with a crescent moon in a poly-lobed frieze of stylized fleurons, the Koutoubia mosque on the upper board, a fountain in a park on the lower board, Tobacco morocco doubled boards, richly decorated with crescent moons, fleurons and stylized flowers, endpapers decorated with silk painted in an ornamental card, one with a portrait of a Moroccan, the other with two women with a child, edges gilt on witnesses, fillet and dotted edges, covers and spine preserved, matching flap folder, lined slipcase [G. Levitzky] (spine of folder and edges of slipcase exposed).
Illustrated with 66 compositions in color, including 9 plates, or in monochrome of gray by André Suréda, interpreted in woodcut by François Louis Schmied, who composed 17 gilded or silvered initials, the cover, the typography and executed the printing on his wood presses.
Limited edition of 152 copies on Japon nacré: one of 20 commercially available (no. II), the others reserved for members of the Société Le Cercle Lyonnais du Livre or collaborators.
Remarkable binding perfectly executed by Gregory Levitzky (1885-1969), a native of the Ukraine who settled in France, where he distinguished himself as one of the finest bookbinders of his time.
