ERRATUM: Décor on spines and boards of disparate bindings /// [Paris]. BEGUILLET (Edme); PONCELIN DE LA ROCHE-TILHAC (J.-C.). Description historique de Paris, et de ses plus beaux monumens... A Paris, chez les auteurs ; Dijon, Frantin ; puis chez le Sr. Martinet, Valade, et al., 1779-1781. 3 volumes in-8, contemporary speckled fawn calf, 5-ribbed spine, red title-pieces, red edges (superf. rubbing, one corner dulled, tear to tom. piece, moderate scattered russeting and browning; margins restored at foot of 3 f. of t.2). First edition of this fine work on Paris, amply illustrated with 56 copper-engraved plates, including 3 titles and 3 allegorical frontispieces, portraits of illustrious figures and a large number of vignettes showing buildings and views of the capital. All the engravings are by the painter and engraver François-Nicolas Martinet (1731 - c. 1805). The title changes with volume 2, becoming "Histoire de Paris et description de ses plus beaux monumens". Provenance: Saint Blimond (etiq. typogr. XVIIIth c. repeated). (Cohen 692).
