Dehondt, 1743. 6 vol. in-4, contemporary blond basane, 5-ribbed spine, garnet and fawn morocco title-pieces, ornate caissons, cold-stamped roulette edging the boards, gilded coat-of-arms in the center, double gilded fillet at the edges, interior roulette, red edges (q.q. defects including rubbing, lower jaw split on t.6; moderate sporadic russeting). Esteemed edition, established and enriched by Denis-François Secousse, and increased by a supplement given by Lenglet Du Fresnoy, which contains the Légende du cardinal de Lorraine, that of Dom Claude de Guise and the Apologie et procès de Jean Chastel, as well as historical, critical and political notes. Illustrations include a frontispiece after Richardon engraved by C.L. Duflos, 16 out-of-text portraits, one of which is repeated, 2 fold-out battle plans, each captioned on a following fold-out leaf, 5 vignettes on headers by Dumont and Bizot. Provenance: Louis-Hyacinthe Boyer de Crémille (1700-1768) governor of Aire and commander-in-chief in the province of Artois (arms on boards); Emmanuel Hocquart de Montfermeil (1727-1778), lawyer (engraved armorial bookplate).
