(including engraved title), 1121 p., contemporary saddle-skin over wood, spine with 4 nerves, trace of ms. title, boards decorated with a central medallion framed by 2 scrolls and multiple fillets, clasps (superficial rubbing, upper flyleaf missing; qq. ff. browned).
Important treatise on miracles, written by F. Förner (1568-1630), auxiliary bishop of Bamberg, principal architect of the Catholic reform in Germany, who also distinguished himself as one of the most fervent promoters of the witch-hunt that was rampant in the bishopric of Bamberg at the time. Unique early edition, dedicated to Emperor Ferdinand II (there were two separate editions in the same year), with copper-engraved title-frontispiece by Peter Isselburg after Gabriel Weyer. Old signature on title.
