LONGUS. Les amours pastorales de Daphnis et Chloé, escrites - Lot 127
LONGUS. Les amours pastorales de Daphnis et Chloé, escrites en grec par Longus, & translatées en françois par Jacques Amyot. A Londres [i.e. Paris], s.n., 1779. In-12, bronze-green calf, 5-ribbed spine, fawn title-piece, second part for place and date in midnight blue, small-ink ornamented caissons, triple gilt fillet on covers, double gilt fillet on edges, gilt inner lace, gilt edges [Petit-Simier] (rubs to headpieces, edges and corners, 2 of which are a little bent).
New edition, illustrated with a title-frontispiece and 29 unsigned intaglio plates, repeating the illustrations of the famous Regent's edition (1718), including the figure of the "little feet" by the comte de Caylus.
The text is partly printed on azure paper, with wide margins; the plates on a different paper are mostly full-margin, but smaller than the text.
A delicately produced copy by Petit-Simier.
(Cohen 654).
