In-8, [2] f., IV-280 p. ; XVI-104 p., fr., figs, contemporary marbled calf, ornate smooth spine, 2 red and green title-pieces, triple gilt fillet edging the boards, gilt roulette at the necks and chasses, gilt edges (binding rubbed but not seriously soiled).
"One of the most elegantly illustrated books of the 18th century" (Cohen). First printing of the illustration, which for the first work consists of a frontispiece, 12 vignettes and 13 culs-de-lampe, all engraved on copper by Massard after Eisen, and for the second, a frontispiece engraved by Duclos after Eisen. The two works are often combined. Large margins.
