MURET (Jean). Traité des festins. A Paris,... - Lot 154 - Kâ-Mondo
MURET (Jean). Traité des festins. A Paris, chez G. Desprez, 1682. In-12, [9] f., 230 p., [12] f., contemporary speckled brown calf, 5-nerved spine, gilt title, ornate caissons, gilt roulette at the edges, speckled edges (2 corners rubbed, tail cap uncovered, wetness on first 30 f.). Uncommon first edition of this well-documented treatise: the author emphasizes the usefulness of feasts, classifying them according to custom (birth, wedding, military and rustic feasts); rules of decorum and propriety are discussed; examples are found in Antiquity as well as in Christian tradition, and also among various peoples such as Persians, Turks, Scythians, Muscovites and Lapps. Provenance: 19th c. armorial dry-stamp on title. (Vicaire 614; Simon, 1078).
