A fine copy of this important collection of portraits of key 17th-century figures. The illustration consists of 1
title-frontispiece, a portrait of the author engraved by Edelinck after Tortebat, and 100 portraits engraved by Jacques Lubin, Edelinck and Van Schuppen. A large-margined copy, featuring the portraits of Antoine Arnauld and Blaise Pascal that the censors had ordered to be removed.
