[Bound in the coat of arms]. PHILIPPE DE COMMYNES. Mémoires de Messire Philippe de Comines, seigneur d'Argenton, où l'on trouve l'histoire des rois de France Louis XI et Charles VIII. Nouvelle édition, revûe sur plusieurs manuscrits du temps, enrichie de notes et de figures... A Londres, et se trouve à Paris, chez Rollin fils, 1747. 4 volumes in-4, mottled havana calf, 5-nerved spine, fawn morocco title-pieces and giblets, compartments decorated with repeated arms, gilded arms in the center of each plate, arms in the corners, gilt roulette at the edges, red edges (defects including uncovered head-pieces; slight traces of dust in the head margins). Esteemed edition, enriched by Denys Godefroy (1615-1681), the King's historiographer, and Nicolas Lenglet Du Fresnoy. It is illustrated with 5 engraved hors-texte portraits, one of which is a frontispiece, and 2 fold-out genealogical tables. Provenance: Henri-François d'Aguesseau (1668-1751), Chancellor of France (arms on boards and arms in spandrels and caissons; OHR 594); modern bookplate scratched. (Brunet II, 191)
