[Galileo]. SALVINI (Salvino). Fasti consolari dell'Accademia Fiorentina. In Firenze, Gaetano Tartini e Santi Franchi, 1717. In-4, XXXI-676 p., [1] f. approbation, contemporary ivory vellum, 4 ribbed spine, red title page, red speckled edges (spine dusted and browned, a few small spots on the boards, rare freckling). Engraved title vignette of the Florentine Academy, woodcut headpieces, lamp-ends and lettering. Provenance: early handwritten bookplate Petri a Sancto Petro Gasperi (?) repeated on flyleaf and fx-t.; handwritten bookplate dated 1833. First edition of this extensive work of biographies of members of the Florentine Academy. It includes Vincenzo Viviani's biography of Gallileo Gallilei (p.393-446), the first to be published and the only one written by a contemporary. It is the source of all the anecdotes and legends known and perpetuated about the famous astronomer.
