BERARD, Frédéric. Doctrine des Rapports du Physique et du Mo - Lot 137
BERARD, Frédéric. Doctrine des Rapports du Physique et du Moral, pour servir de fondement à la physiologie dite intellectuelle et à la métaphysique, published in Paris by Gabon et Cie in 1823, one volume, In-8 format, black half-basin. Spine ribbed and decorated with gilt irons and garlands. III+675 pages. Joints a little tired, corners and top cover rubbed, foxing, otherwise rather good condition. First edition of this work of philosophy. The author (1789-1828) proposes a dualistic vision of man, opposed to the materialism of Pierre-Jean-Georges Cabanis. He affirms the interaction between body and mind, and seeks to found a metaphysics that integrates physiology and mental faculties. Influenced by Montpellier vitalism, he defended the idea of a "vital principle" distinct from purely physical forces.
