One volume, large format In-12. Greenish-brown half calf. Smooth spine decorated with gilt acanthus leaves and stamped fleurons. XI+750+(1 f.), 4 lithographed plates in color. Spine unstained. Edges rubbed, upper corners bent. Original edition. Jules Sichel founded the first private ophthalmology clinic in Paris. From the author's preface: "'In general works on surgery, eye diseases are almost always treated imperfectly. The need for a good treatise on ophthalmology was therefore keenly felt in France". Very handsome work with four quite original plates of retinal defects, in its period binding.
