[ANONYMOUS]. The Christian Manual or Meditation for a Priest - Lot 4

[ANONYMOUS]. The Christian Manual or Meditation for a Priest on a Journey. Published in Lyon without mention of publisher, in 1774. In twelve / In-12 format. Red shagreened calf. Smooth spine decorated with gilt fillets and flowers. Gilt edges. Contemporary binding. Handwritten copy of XXIIII and 197 pages, 23 numbered blank pages (pp.198-221), some passages in Latin. Small worm hole at head of spine, tiny stains on second board, but gilt on edges well preserved. An attractive 18th-century prayer manual in Latin and French. It contains meditations by its author on ecclesiastical journeys. It is probably a collection of texts copied by a member of the community of philosophers at the seminary of Saint Irénée de Lyon. "We are the Light of the world, the iron of the earth qualities that must be hard for you, and to sustain them we must edify on every occasion, everywhere spreading the good odor of Jesus Christ whose ministers we are..." (About exemplary virtue). Scratched bookplate. In an impeccable contemporary binding.
