BURGERSDICIO, Francone. Collegium physicum disputationibvs. Published in Lugdunum batavorum by Ex officina Elzeviriana in 1637. In seize / In-16 format. Red half-basane with gilt filleted corners. Smooth spine decorated with gilt fillets, fleurons and title. Red speckled edges, marbled paper endpapers. (4)-353-(3) pages, embellished with bands, lettering and endpapers. Slight rubbing to spine ends, corners dulled and a little crushed. Some foxing on first pages. Second edition of these disputes compiled by the Dutch logician Franck Burgersdijck (1590-1635). The disputatio, or great disputation, originated in scholastic teaching and was practiced in universities all over Europe. It was a public ceremony, under the authority of a professor, during which the future graduate had to demonstrate his or her argumentation and eloquence skills, in order to obtain a Master of Arts degree or a doctorate. A fine copy, clean and fresh inside.
