Bound by Pfister in full crimson basane, smooth spine with false nerves underlined by gilt and full cold dotted fillets, boxes decorated with full and dotted gilt fillets, triple gilt fillet on covers with gilt emblem of Napoleon's imperial high school on first covers, gilt roulettes on corners, guilloche headbands and gilt edges.
3 ff.n.ch., 160 and 22 pages; 3 ff.n.ch., 271 and 37 pages (numbered 26 to 63); 30 maps (11 in the first volume and 19 in the second).
First volume: spine of first cover split, head cap gone, corners dulled; second volume: spine of second cover split, leather missing from spine of first cover, corners dulled and edges rubbed.
History of France in two parts: the first covers the period from Gaul to the Revolution, with eleven color maps by Sanis, while the second covers the period from 1789 to the late 1850s, with nineteen color maps.
