GHÉON, Henri. Les Campagnes simples: La solitude de l'été. - Lot 125
GHÉON, Henri. Les Campagnes simples: La solitude de l'été. Paris, Société du Mercure de France, 1897. In-12 format, bradel. Grey-green half cloth with corners, smooth spine decorated with a gilt fleuron and double fillet, gilt lettering on black leather, date at foot, covers preserved. Margins untrimmed. 250 pp. 1 f. (completed printing). Minor rubbing to covers and corners. Slight foxing on first cover. First edition, one of the first issue copies. This collection by French writer Henri Ghéon, pseudonym of Henri Léon Vangeon (1875-1944), is the first volume in a series with the general title "Les Campagnes Simples". The set aims to translate "ingenuously the multiple spectacle of days through the synthetic seasons of a year. [...] A sort of familiar, fragmented epic [...], in which the relationships between man and things are sketched out". (preface). Autograph signed letter from the author on the title page: "To my friend Charles Guérin, very affectionately. Henri Ghéon". Pleasant copy with a letter from the author to the poet Charles Guérin (1873-1907).
