Beige half-chagrin with corners, spine with cold-pinched false nerves, title, author and date embossed, silvered headband, covers preserved (period binding). 42 pages. Rubbing, leather browned in places, corners worn. Margins browned. First edition of this play in verse by Belgian poet and writer Georges Rodenbach (1855-1898), performed at the Comédie-Française in 1894. It features the Bruges themes that made Belgium's literary and artistic scene of the 1890s so famous, as well as images dear to the author's heart: the city, women, hair... Enriched copy with a signed autograph letter from the author to Charles Guérin (1873-1907) on the title page, as follows: "A poet of grave and sincere subtlety whom I love dearly. Georges Rodenbach." Pleasant copy with a fine dispatch from the author. Provenance: Charles Guérin by descent.
