CENDRARS, Blaise. Complete autobiographical works I and II. - Lot 49
CENDRARS, Blaise. Complete autobiographical works I and II. Paris, NRF - Bibliothèque de la Pléiade, 2013. 2 volumes in-12, brown imitation leather, smooth spines decorated with gilded fillets, orange head edges. Volumes complete with dust jackets, rhodoïds and illustrated slipcase. 2272 pages. Edited by Claude Leroy. The works collected here are organized around the four major books published between 1945 and 1949: L'Homme foudroyé, La Main coupée, Bourlinguer and Le Lotissement du ciel. This informal "tetralogy" is preceded by Sous le signe de François Villon (Under the Sign of François Villon), an important collection that has never been published in its own right. It is followed by Cendrars' last personal text, J'ai vu mourir Fernand Léger, an account of the painter's last days, which illustrated the booklet J'ai tué in 1918. Volume II also contains the "Écrits de jeunesse" (1911-1912), in which Frédéric Sauser is reborn as Blaise Cendrars. Finally, a collection of "Entretiens et propos rapportés" (Interviews and reported remarks) provides the elements of a spoken self-portrait. Attractive box in perfect condition.
