Hempatong funerary sculpture depicting a standing male figure, arms detached from the body, hands around the pubis. The head rests on a powerful truncated-cone neck. The face is deeply carved in the shape of a heart, with a prominent mouth and round eyes beneath deep superciliary arches. A fragment of an earring on the right ear. Hard, heavy wood with a very old, weathered patina. Dayak Bahau from the Mahakam River region, Borneo, Indonesia. H. 174 cm. (Visible old missing parts. As the object was found with its head and body separated, a patinated wooden element was added to reunite them.)
