Pierre Gassendi was a mathematician, philosopher, theologian and astronomer; Claude Favre, baron de Pérouges, seigneur de Vaugelas was a grammarian from Savoie and a member of the Académie française; Charles d'Antennes, marquis de Rambouillet was marquis de Pisani through his wife Catherine de Vivonne, daughter of Jean de Vivonne, marquis de Pisani. Catherine de Vivonne inherited the Hôtel de Rambouillet from her father, where she entertained the literati of her day, including Vaugelas and Richelieu.
