"The work of Erró (born Guðmundur Guðmundsson in 1932 in Ólafsvík, Iceland; lives and works in Paris) is part of the Narrative Figuration movement. Blending collage and painting, he selects and assembles iconic elements found in the press, advertising, comics, cinema, and political propaganda, manipulating them to form compositions where humor vies with anxiety. Erró consistently asserts himself as a great satirical iconoclast obsessed with political figures, cultural celebrities, and the realities of our society: controlled consumption, commercialized eroticism, the Americanization of life, the apparent lack of meaning in history, etc. In this way, he crafts a sort of anti-legend of the century.” (Publisher’s website)
