In-8, 3 [sur 4] f., 1165 p., veau havane glacé XVIIe s.., dos à nerfs orné, titre doré (rel. très usée, plat sup. détaché, coiffes arrachées; il manque la page de titre et le dernier feuillet blanc; mouillures claires peu fréquentes et marginales, piq. et trav. de vers dans les marges de pied, touchant q. lettres sur 7 cahiers, sans gravité; déch. sans perte p. 175-177, 453 et 469, trou touchant 2 lettre p. 491, coin mq. en marge de 2 ff.). Very rare edition of the Essays, the eighth published, and the second given by Mademoiselle de Gournay. According to Tchémerzine, " it is of the greatest rarity and interest ", because of the new preface in which Mlle de Gournay retracts the one of 1595, " that the blindness of her age and a violent fever of soul once let her escape from her hands ".
