MORGAGNI (Giovanni Battista). De sedibus,... - Lot 193 - Kâ-Mondo
MORGAGNI (Giovanni Battista). De sedibus, et causis morborum per anatomen indagatis libri quinque dissectiones, et animadversiones, nunc primum editas complectuntur propemodum innumeras, medicis, chirurgis, anatomicis profuturas. Lovanii, E. Typographia Academica, 1766-1767. Four parts in 2 vol. in-4, [2] f., CXLIII-222 p., [1] f., 310 p. + [1] f., 442 p., [1] f.., 351 p., period marbled havana basane, spine with 5 nerves, garnet morocco title piece, bronze green basane tomaison piece, ornate boxes, double gilt fillet at the cuts, red slices (2 uncovered headdresses, 2 partly split bits, skins at the flats, blunt corners, uniformly burnished paper). Fourth edition of this landmark work in the history of medicine. G.B. Morgagni (1682-1771), an anatomist and medical historian, held the chair of anatomy in Padua from 1715 until his death. This treatise is based on long experimental studies from more than 700 autopsies, and puts a definitive end to humoral diagnosis, drawing attention to the pre-eminence of changes in anatomical structure. In this sense, Morgagni's contribution to the understanding of the disease is comparable in magnitude to the contributions of Vesalius in anatomy and Harvey in physiology. (Bibl.
