Pierre INO (1909-1989).
Pierre INO (1909-1989). Portrait of a woman with a cat. Oil on canvas signed and dated 1969 lower right. (Uprising and small lacks on the edges). D.: 80 x 63.5 cm. Pierre INO is a Russian surrealist artist born in Saint Petersburg, in 1909 shortly before the revolution. In France in 1927, and from the 1940s on, exhibits at the Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh and at the Galerie de Berri-Raspail in Paris. He later exhibited at the Galerie Charpentier as a member of the École de Paris. His exhibition "The Fantastic Reality" took place at the André Weil Gallery in 1959. Ino's style is delicate and surrealist. He creates a world tinged with poetic dreams and figures living in an indeterminate space that evoke at the same time the past, the present and the future. He uses symbols and objects borrowed from surrealist language, esoteric sciences and mythical characters that blend together to take us on a journey. He used this poetic and strange style to create advertisements for the Guerlain brand as early as 1957. Our painting takes up these codes through the enigmatic gaze of the Siamese cat and its mistress, adorned with a dress of multicoloured leaves.
