DUPIN (Charles). Productive and Commercial... - Lot 62 - Kâ-Mondo
DUPIN (Charles). Productive and Commercial Forces of France. Paris, Bachelier, 1827. Two volumes in one in-4, [4] f., IV-VIII-XXXX-330 p. + [3] f., 336 p., contemporary roasted havana basane, smooth spine decorated, red basane author's and title-pieces, speckled edges (2 corners worn, a few epidermal marks, sporadic brown spots). First edition. Charles Dupin is one of the major personalities in the history of the industrial development of France to which he gave a decisive impulse. He presented this work on the occasion of the industrial exhibition of 1827, in a France then in full economic crisis. Dupin developed, for the first time, the evolving concept of "productive and commercial forces". On these foundations, he delivers this monumental survey of comparative statistics and questions the consequences of industrialization and the development of machinery. (Goldsmiths, 25162).
