[Sixteenth century book]. [Paris]. CRESPET (Pierre). La pomme de grenade mystique, ou Institution d'une vierge chrestienne, & de l'ame devote [Printed text], qui fait profession de la vie continente, & de l'estat de perfection, pour se disposer à l'advenement de son espoux Jesus Christ... A Paris, chez Guillaume de La Moue, 1586. In-8, [20]-250-[14] f., [sign. ã8, e8, i4, A-Z8, Aa-Kk8), contemporary brown calf, spine with 5 nerves, gilt title, ornate caissons, double gilt fillet bordering the boards, gilt congregation mark in the centers, edges speckled, restorations of which fragmentary spine reassembled (gaps in covers at the side edges, moderate russure). First edition of this mystical work by Father Crespet, a celestine religious born in Sens in 1542, who died in 1504, "an ardent liguer" according to Caillet (2689), who mentions a rare work on demonology by this author. Provenance: Célestins de Paris (manuscript bookplate on title and supra-libris on both covers); Séminaire des Missions étrangères (19th c. stamp). (USTC 14353).
