[16th century book]. [Roman Pontifical, Latin,... - Lot 200 - Kâ-Mondo
[16th century book]. [Roman Pontifical, Latin, 1595]. Pontifical Romanum Clementis VIII. Bridge. Max. iussu restitutum atque editum]. Pontificalis pars secunda [-pars tertia]. Romae, apud Iacobum Lunam, impensis Leonardi Parasoli, 1595. In-folio, p.281-538, [1] f. blanc, p. 539-705, fig.., period garnet morocco, dishes richly decorated with a composition of fillets and fleurons known as "à la fanfare", coat of arms in the centre, smooth back decorated with a reminder of the coat of arms in medallion, gilt edges (accidents, including at the caps, 3 corners formerly restored and one very worn, fold marks at the corners of the dishes, rubbing, renewed guards; wetness, margins worn at the beginning of the flight, marginal dirt). Original edition of the pontifical from the Council of Trent, which sets out the details of the rituals that only bishops are entitled to celebrate. This volume contains only the second and third parts of the work, and the general title page is absent. It is illustrated with numerous copper-engraved figures, depicting in particular the blessing ceremonies of a church and the bells. The carefully executed binding, probably Italian, features a large number of small figurative irons: cherubs, mermaids, dragons, urns, eagles, and lions that recall the main figure from the owner's coat of arms. Provenance: binding with the arms of a bishop; ancient manuscript ex-libris: Congregation of the Mission in Béziers; manuscript ex-dono dated 1833, by Philibert de Bruillard, bishop of Grenoble; ancient stamp in the margin of the title: "GS" framing a cross. (Brunet IV, 814).
