French school of the XVIIth century, follower... - Lot 67 - Kâ-Mondo
French school of the XVIIth century, follower of Frans POURBUS Portrait of Gentian III Thomas. Canvas. 82 × 73 cm. An inscription in the upper left corner: Aetatis Suae 50 /1612 and in the upper right corner the coat of arms of the Thomas du Fossé family. (Restorations). 17th century painted and gilded wood frame. Born in Blois in 1562, of the king's party during the League, he became secretary to Admiral de Villars then governor of Normandy. His appointment by Henri IV in 1594 as Master of the Accounts of Normandy contributed to his settlement in Rouen. It is probably with him that the arms of the Thomas family appear: "Azure two armed hands each holding a sword in chevron, accompanied by three bezants, two in chief and one in base, on a chief of gold". Stamp and mantling. Tenants: two unicorns.
