(privil.), contemporary tortoiseshell calf, smooth and ornate spine, tan and marbled edges, ornate flat spine. (small tear in the tail cap). First edition. Provenance: Jean-Baptiste Descamps, French painter (1706-1796), with his bookplate offering an allegory of painting, drawn and engraved on copper by Noël Le Mire (1724-1801). The latter began his training in drawing in Rouen, his native city, with Jean-Baptiste Descamps who had founded a free academy there.
