Paris & Neufchatel, Briasson & alii; then Amsterdam, Panckoucke & Rey, 1751-1780. 35 vol. in-folio, homogeneous contemporary binding, full brown spotted calf, spine with 6 nerves, title and greefs, decorated caissons, red edges (defects of use and tears in the bindings, not serious; collation and detailed condition report on request). First edition of the famous editorial monument which brilliantly illustrated the thought of the Enlightenment. It consists of 17 volumes of text (published between 1751 and 1765), 11 volumes of plates (from 1762 to 1772), 5 volumes of supplements, including one of plates (published in 1776 and 1777), and 2 volumes of table (1780). Pleasant copy, including all supplements, tables, frontispiece and all plates. According to the editor's count, which adds up each section of the double, triple and quadruple plates, the total number of plates is 3129. In addition, there are 8 folding tables out of the text: "Système figuré des connoissances humaines"; Tableau de mesures itinéraires; 4 tables of the general divisions of Africa, America, Asia and Africa; a table, "Système figuré de la géographie"; and the large folding table, "Essai d'une distribution généalogique des Sciences et des Arts principaux".
